Renowned Italian conductor and composer Giuseppe “Beppe” Vessicchio passed away on November 8, 2025 in Rome at the age of 69. The San Camillo Forlanini Hospital, where he had been in intensive care, confirmed that the cause of death was a rapidly worsening case of interstitial pneumonia. The hospital, in agreement with his family, announced that the funeral will be held privately, asking for respect for their privacy during this difficult time.
Vessicchio, affectionately known as Maestro Peppe Vessicchio, was one of Italy’s most recognizable figures in the world of music, widely beloved for his many appearances at the Sanremo Music Festival. His name and image became synonymous with Italian television and popular culture, admired for his warmth, humor, and deep musical expertise.
Tributes poured in from across Italy’s cultural and political circles. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Senate President Ignazio La Russa were among those who honored his memory, describing him as a symbol of Italian musical tradition and an artist who touched generations.
Fellow musicians and public figures also expressed grief. Carlo Conti called him “an institution” of Sanremo, while host Fabio Fazio remembered him as a “sweet and kind man.” Artists such as Gianni Morandi, Rita Pavone, Fedez, Francesca Michielin, and Alfa shared emotional messages online, recalling their collaborations and friendships with the maestro.
Born in Naples, Vessicchio built a long and respected career as a conductor, arranger, and educator, working with some of Italy’s most celebrated performers and mentoring many young talents. His passing marks the end of an era for Italian light music and leaves a deep void in the nation’s artistic community.
