Nerissa De Juan Reflects on Her Musical Journey in One-Night Concert
Acclaimed Filipino soprano Nerissa De Juan is set to bring audiences through her musical journey as she headlines “The Sound of Becoming: The Songs That Made Me”, a one-night-only fundraising concert happening on September 20, 2025, at the Manila Pianos Showroom in Makati City.
Following her celebrated portrayal of Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen with the Singapore Lyric Opera, De Juan returns to the Manila stage not only to perform but to offer a deeply personal musical reflection. This intimate concert will trace her artistic journey through the very songs that shaped her evolution as a singer — from operatic arias to cherished classical pieces.
De Juan’s remarkable career began at just 19 when she debuted as Maria Clara in the 60th-anniversary production of Noli Me Tangere: The Opera at the Cultural Center of the Philippines — a role she later reprised in 2019. Since then, she has portrayed a range of roles across major operatic works: La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica, Mme. Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor, Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and most recently, Micaëla — all showcasing her versatility and emotional depth onstage.
Beyond her operatic success, she has been a featured soloist with top orchestras such as the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Manila Symphony Orchestra, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, performing in events like Asia Orchestra Week in Japan and Sunsets at Makiling in Los Baños.
She is also a familiar face in the country’s beloved concert series, including Paco Park Presents, Concert at the Park, Kung Hindi Man, and the Manila Pianos Artist Series.
Later this year, she is poised to continue her vocal studies in Vienna — a long-held dream and a major milestone, made possible through the prestigious Ernst Mach–ASEA-UNINET Music Practice Grant. “The Sound of Becoming” is not just a concert but an invitation to be part of this exciting new chapter in her life.
With her versatility in operatic and classical performances, De Juan promises a moving performance that resonates with both seasoned music lovers and new audiences alike.
