Sergiu Celibidache Biopic Beats Own Record in Week Two

The Yellow Tie has defied industry expectations and box office norms by delivering a second-week performance 58% higher than its opening weekend. The film, starring John Malkovich, Sean Bean, Miranda Richardson, Kate Phillips, and Ben Schnetzer, opened at No. 1 in Romania on November 14.

The film’s second-week performance has outpaced the debut numbers of major 2025 releases including F1: The Movie and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, positioning The Yellow Tie as an unexpected box office highlight and one of the strongest word-of-mouth successes of the year.

James Olivier, the film’s UK-based producer and co-writer, described the response as a clear sign of audience momentum and growing public engagement. “The people have taken over the promotion of the film and there is no more powerful voice than the voice of the audience,” he said.

The film continues its theatrical run across Romania. Plans and announcements regarding international distribution are expected at a later date.
